How it Works

Becoming an Amachi Big Brother or Big Sister is simple. This step-by-step guide takes you through the screening process.

  1. Step 1: Interview & Enrollment

After a background check you'll meet one-on-one with a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member in your local community. You'll have a chance to describe your personality, what your interests are and can ask any other questions you may have about the program. The interview gives us all of the information we need to make a match! Volunteer online or call us toll-free at 866.892.2447.

  2. Step 2: Training

Once approved, you'll receive orientation and training from Big Brothers Big Sisters. And Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members are always available for support throughout your commitment to the program.

  3. Step 3: The Match

After you are approved and trained you will be matched with a child who shares similar interests. During the matching process Big Brothers Big Sisters staffers consider your personality and interests, and the child's. It's through years and years of experience that our staff has come to develop the ability to make ideal matches. This careful thought and consideration ensures that you are matched with a child (called your "Little") that you're likely to connect well with.

  4. Step 4: Mentoring

You and your Little will meet a few times a month. You can use the time however you want. Go to the movies, the library, on a hike or just hang out! Or, if you are part of a school-based program, you will meet your Little once a week at school. It's up to you, your Little and the caregiver. You'll be amazed as you see your Little start to open up. They'll look forward to your weekly hang out times and so will you!

Get started.

Just be yourself.
