Why refer a child?
Studies prove that children who have caring adult mentors are less likely to use drugs, perform better in school and have healthier relationships with family and friends. Amachi mentors do not replace a caregiver or parent, but they do offer that extra one-on-one adult interaction that children crave.
Contacting us is the first step.
While the benefits of having a mentor are clear, Big Brothers Big Sisters Amachi Ohio can only help families who come forward. The challenge is spreading the word to families and letting them know that a program like this even exists.
Thanks to a partnerships with Prison Fellowship Ministries/Angel Tree, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, and local faith-based organizations, police departments, schools and community organizations, we have been able to locate some families but the majority of referrals come from the child's caregivers, their parents or community members.

What happens after I fill out the form?
Your information is passed on to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Amachi Ohio agency nearest you. That agency will then call you with to answer your questions or to set up an appointment.
